Diablo III – Right from the beginning of time

Right from the beginning of time, there have been innumerable wars between the angels from heaven and demons from hell. As time passed by, a world of sanctuary was created as an asylum by the angels and demons as they grew weary of the many wars fought amongst them. The Sanctuary was inhibited by humans – who were a hybrid of angel and demon. The humans learnt to survive and expand their territory only to come face to face with the Lord of Terror – Diablo.

Diablo is trapped in the Soulstone under the grand cathedral of Tristram by the angels who fought against the Lord of Terror all those years ago. However, Diablo is set free from the Soulstone by the advisor of the king – Archbishop Lazarus, whose mind is manipulated by Diablo. Once freed, Diablo possesses the King of Tristram – Leoric, who then begins to imprison the people of Tristram questioning his atrocities. Consequently, Diablo also kidnaps the Prince Albrecht of Tristram by influencing the advisor of the king.

Diablo continues devastation of the city and tortures its inhabitants and slays them.  As the carnage on the townspeople increase, the player enters the city of Tristram and pledges to destroy Diablo. In order to face Diablo, the player needs to cross sixteen levels where in each level is packed with animals, demons and the undead who wrestle with the player to impede his progress in the game. The player succeeds each level with help of his weapons and various spells that he can cast. Once he faces the Lord of Terror – Diablo, the player traps the soul of Diablo by killing its mortal form.

This is accomplished by the warrior who is one of the characters that the hero chooses to fight Diablo in. As the warrior succeeds in trapping the soul of Diablo into his own mind, Diablo begins to possess the warrior who had actually killed it. Diablo sends the possessed warrior on the mission of freeing two of its counterparts in Burning Hells – Mephisto (Lord of Hatred) and Ball (Lord of Destruction). This marks the beginning of Diablo II in which the player has to destroy the three Prime Evils – Diablo, Mephisto and Baal. The player has to progress through four acts, each of which has a set of quests some of which are optional while some mandatory. Also, three levels are given to the player to choose from during Diablo II – Normal, Nightmare and Hell. As the level goes higher, the monsters are stronger and rules of destruction are stricter. Also, the player can either chose softcore character, or a hardcore one. In case of softcore character, the player can revive his/her character even after it is killed and can resume playing. But with respect to hardcore, if the character is killed, his death cannot be revoked and so the play cannot be resumed.

As the player succeeds in completing all the four acts, he manages to conquer the first of the three primary evils –Mephisto followed by Diablo’s destruction. The Baal corrupts the Worldstone before the player kills it and so the Worldstone is destroyed by Archangel Tyrael in order to impede any further impairment to the Sanctuary from the corrupted Worldstone.

Twenty years later, Deckard Cain starts on a quest to find out why an invasion from the Burning Hells never happened, which was long anticipated by the World of Sanctuary? Cain is in turn possibly becomes the next victim of Diablo who comes to power leading the world of Sanctuary to yet another brutal massacre of humanity.  The player now has to return to the world of Sanctuary to once again meet the evil in its many forms and destroy it.
