Diablo is one of the most fascinating games when it comes to the Action – Role Playing Games genre. Its central theme is dark fantasy and the game is set in the illusory kingdom of Khanduras. The player is to single handedly destroy the devil Diablo, who is the Lord of Terror, by taking control of the hero in the game.
The player has three characters to choose from in his mission of perishing the Lord of Terror – Diablo: The Warrior, who is physically strong, or The Rogue, who possesses high dexterity or The Sorcerer, who can execute magic of all nature. Each of these characters possesses a set of features with varying statistics – Strength, Magic, Dexterity and Vitality. The numerical values of these features in turn gauge the powerfulness of each character as the game progresses.
There are sixteen levels in this game through which the player has to go by and each level has monsters which get tougher and deadlier as the player goes up the ladder of levels. To destroy these monsters, the player can cast various magical spells or use annihilation equipments which may be dropped by the murdered monsters or sold by vendors for gold. The annihilation equipments can be used by the player as long as the character possesses the required statistical value with respect to its attributes. The enemies to be destroyed are grouped into three – Animals, Demons and Undead. Each of these group have specific traits which determine as to which weapon is competent of doing the maximum damage and which weapon will be of least damage to the enemy.
The game of Diablo ends with the warrior defeating the Lord of Terror and containing its soul in his (warrior’s) own mind. This enables the Lord of Terror to possess the warrior and thus continues the realm of Diablo into Diablo II. In Diablo II, the Two Prime Evils – Mephisto (Lord of Hatred) and Ball (Lord of Destruction) are released by Diablo and therefore starts a new episode of destruction. The player enters the game with the purpose of destroying the three Prime Evils – Diablo, Baal and Mephisto. In order to do so, the player can choose from one of the five available characters – The Amazon with physical strength, The Necromancer with abilities to cast death spells, The Barbarian who is a frontline combat expert, The Sorceress capable of casting ice, fire and lighting spells and The Paladin who possesses combat skills ranging from obsessive attacks to heavenly thunderbolts.
The player fights the ferocious monsters to enter Burning Hells and destroys Diablo after conquering Mephisto. However the Lord of destruction – Baal succeeds in corrupting the Worldstone which would bring hell to Sanctuary. Ball is consequently killed but the Worldstone is nevertheless corrupted. Thus Archangel Tyrael, who fought the evil throughout Diablo II, destroys the Worldstone to put off further harm to the Sanctuary.
The Diablo 3 happens twenty years later, by the time when the heroes and heroines who fought the dark power during Diablo II have either gone mad because of the inhuman experiences during the fight or have buried all the memories of the frightful fight all those years ago. As the perished evil comes to life again, the player will have to return to sanctuary to explore new places within the sanctuary and revisit some of the old ones, and once again defeat the dark devils.
